On French Academic Painting in the Middle and Late Nineteenth Century
Since the first half of the nineteenth century,academic art has encountered severe challenges from different styles of art.In the turbulent era of modern art,the French academic school in the middle and late nine-teenth century still adhered to the classical painting tradition and artistic style,and made extraordinary achieve-ments.This article discusses the origin of academic painting,the impacted academic painting,the re-recognition and conclusion of the masters of painting in the middle and late nineteenth century,and deeply reveals how French academic painting was inherited and carried forward under the impact of various artistic styles at that time.The ac-ademic tradition,and consistent assiduous exploration,shines in the emerging modern art schools,and still occu-pies the mainstream position of Western painting in the middle and late nineteenth century.
