The Opposition and Unification of Mind and Nature:A Comparative Study between Ganjae's Theory of Nature and Yangming's Theory of Mind
The eastward transmission of Wang Yangmings theory of mind has sparked centuries-long debates within the Korean Confucian community.Jeon Ganjae, the Neo-Confucianism master in the late Joseon Dynasty, stood as a significant figure in these debates on the Theory of Mind.Jeon Ganjae keeps the doctrine of Cheng-Zhu and Yi Yulgok, and strictly distinguishes Li-Qi and the Mind-Nature,meanwhile opposes clearly the theories of Mind.Jeon Ganjae innovatively proposes many theories, such as"Nature Being Respected and Mind Being Hum-ble","Weakness to Mind and Respect to Nature"and"Nature as Teacher and Mind as Disciple".These theories happen to be relatively analyzed with Wang Yangming's theories, such as"Mind as Li","Extension of Innate Knowledge"and"Four Sentence of Creeds".Therefore,we can explore the difference of the theory typology be-tween Yangming's Theory of Mind and Ganjae s Theory of Nature, and look back the insistence to the respective principles. The differences between academic domain and core topic push their ideological exploration into different directions, then enrich the diversity of Confucianism thought, meanwhile stimulate the vitality of the Confucianism spirit, and provides valuable resources and paradigms for further academic research.
