Father Presence and Cognitive Emotion Regulation on Youth:The Roles of Adult Attachment and Need of Cognitive Closure
To examine the relationship between father presence and youth cognitive emotion regulation and to test the mediating role of adult attachment and the moderating role of cognitive closure needs,a questionnaire sur-vey was conducted on a group of 674 young adults using the Father Presence Questionnaire,the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale,the Need for Closure Scale,and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire.The results found that father presence can positively predict adaptive strategies(β=0.402,p<0.001).Attachment a-voidance mediated between father presence and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies,and the mediating effect has a value of 20%.Need for cognitive closure to plays a moderating role in the second half of the pathway in which father presence influences adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies through attachment avoidance.These findings reveal the impact of a fathers emotional involvement and youth's acknowledgment of the father's role on selecting adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies,offering theoretical guidance for family education and youth emotional regulation.
