Preparation of Anhydrous Magnesium Chloride from Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Under Self Atmosphere Conditions
High purity anhydrous magnesium chloride was successfully prepared using magnesium chloride hexahy-drate as raw material under the conditions of ammonium chloride self atmosphere. The effects of ingredient ratio and insulation temperature on the purity of anhydrous magnesium chloride were studied. The dehydration and thermal de-composition process of magnesium chloride hexahydrate was studied from the perspectives of thermodynamics and thermal decomposition. The results indicate that under the experimental conditions, the dehydration of magnesium chlo-ride hexahydrate to prepare anhydrous magnesium chloride is a approximate first-order reaction. The reaction mecha-nism is random nucleation followed by growth. The process preparation data shows that high-purity anhydrous magne-sium chloride can be prepared under ammonium chloride atmosphere. The optimal preparation conditions are a holding time of 180 minutes and a holding temperature of 450 ℃.
