Rutting Development and Model Prediction of Steel Slag Asphalt Concrete
Volume expansion tests under long-term water immersion and accelerated loading rutting tests were per-formed on steel slag asphalt concrete.Test results indicate that steel slag asphalt concrete designed by using crumb rub-ber composited modified asphalt and gap gradation has an accumulated rutting depth smaller than 5 mm and the rutting was mainly induced by densification effect. The 60 ℃ water immersion test for 7 d were used to investigate the effects of volume expansion of steel slag asphalt concrete. It indicates that after water immersion, the rutting depth increases 22%,while it increases 8%under heavy loading. The combined effect of moisture and heavy loading results in 32%in-crease on rutting depth. The proposed rutting model can well predict the development of rutting depth and thus can be used for the durability design of steel slag asphalt concrete.
