Application Effects Comparison of Several Alkaline Fillers in Asphalt Concrete
This study has compared and analyzed the application effects of three commonly used high alkaline fillers, namely cement, quicklime, and hydrated lime,in acidic aggregate based asphalt concrete. Results show that the addition of 2%cement,quicklime,and hydrated lime increase the Marshall stability and splitting tensile strength of asphalt con-crete by more than 20%.After being damaged by hot water and freeze-thaw process, the three types of highly alkaline fillers can still maintain the remained Marshall stability and splitting tensile strength ratio of asphalt concrete at over 86%and 84%,respectively.However,there is a significant difference in the performance of the three types of highly al-kaline fillers in terms of the volume stability of asphalt concrete. Both quicklime and hydrated lime pose a risk of expan-sion damage to asphalt concrete, especially the volume expansion effect produced by the former is obvious. Therefore, considering the various performance of asphalt concrete,it is recommended to mix cement and mineral powder in a mass ratio of 1∶1 to improve the performance of acidic aggregate based asphalt concrete.
