Discussion on the Expansion and Extension of Slopes and Internal Dumping of Stripped Rocks in Open-pit Mining of Steeply-Inclined Large Ore Bodies
In response to the threat of production shutdown due to insufficient ore during the transition period from open-pit to underground mining, the lack of a waste dump for the striped ores from expansion and extension of open-pit slopes, and the difficulty in setting up loose overlaying rocks for underground mining, based on the mining sequence of open-pit in horizontal and vertical directions and the practice of internal dumping of stripped rocks, the method of first closing a part of an open pit and using the space of the first closed pit as an internal dumping site for striped rocks from a later-closed pit is discussed. This method not only realizes the stable production transition of the mine, but also enables the rock dumped within the pit serve as the overlaying rocks for underground mining, reducing the haulage distance of open-pit mining and the difficulty of setting up overlaying rocks for underground mining. It ensures stable operation of the mine in a profitable state and significant economic and social benefits, and promotes the green and efficient development of the mine.
