Experimental Study of Mechanical Properties of Cemented Filling of Fine-grained Tailings from an Iron Mine
In view of the actual condition of production in an iron ore mine, the tailings storage facility has insufficient storage capacity after years of ore dumping and operation, and the problem as to how to store the surplus tailings needs to be studied and solved. After a large amount of investigation in the early stage, the ecological restoration scheme is proposed to be implemented after the closure of the south open pit,and in the scheme the tailings are cemented and stacked in the open pit.Experimental research on the mechanics of fine-grained tailings cemented filling is carried out so as to familiarize with the basic physical properties and chemical composition of tailings,as well as the rheological properties of slurryies at various ratios and concentrations, and the strength characteristics of the filling body at corresponding ages, which provides basic data for the determination of slurry conveying concentration and the implementation of the project. At the same time, exploratory tests on the substitution of cementitious materials are carried out with an aim to reduce the cost of cenmented stockpiling.
