To improve the insulation performance of ladles during turnover, insulating materials are often used in the liquid steel smelting process to fit the temperature changes of liquid steel in continuous casting and meet the requirements of secondary refining and continuous casting processes. The dedicated insulating castable for permanent lining of ladles was prepared with raw materials including calcium hexaluminate, fused magnesia 97%,alumina micro powder, white fused alumina, etc. In its preparation, pure aluminate cement served as the main binderand PC60 water-reducing agent and organic fibers were added. Then the effect of CA6 grain addition on the slag resistance of insulating castable was studied.According to the experiment, when the calcination temperature was 1 100℃,the main generated product was granular CA2,and a large number of sheet-like CA6 will be generated inside the matrix. When the calcination temperature rose to 1 500℃,CA2 in the sample was completely transformed into CA6,and only the characteristic peaks of Al2O3 and CA6 were detectable inside the sample. As the adding amount of CA6 increased, the flexural strength and compressive strength of the sample under room temperature first increased and then decreased.Besides, the thermal conductivity of the sample gradually decreased. The best slag erosion resistance performance was observed when 10%CA6(w)was added.
