Heller's Critique and Reshaping of Habermas's Discourse Ethics
Discourse ethics is a distinctive theoretical innovation of Habermas, which has sparked numerous discussions among modern thinkers.Among them,Agnes Heller,a famous representative figure of Eastern Europe Neo-Marxism,criticized and reshaped discourse ethics based on Habermas with her concept of"practical discourse ethics".She pointed out that the dilemma of discourse ethics lies in the fact that there is rupture between transcendentalism and experiential practice in communication action theory, which fails to provide a solid theoretical foundation;replacing moral philosophy with procedural justice and universal basic principles, and replacing moral norms with social-political norms, fails to constitute the basis for moral choices and actions.Heller added the word"practice"to the discourse ethics, emphasizing the need to replace rational consensus with discussions of practical value, and promoting the return of communicative rationality to practical rationality."Practice"comprehensively demonstrates the dilemma of discourse ethics and Heller's path to reshape it.
