The Knowledge Landscape of Overseas Studies on Chinese Think Tanks and Its Reflections
Think tanks provide an interactive space for knowledge production in overseas China studies, serving as a window for observing China from abroad and sparking new academic research focus.Since the 1980s,the number and development scope of Chinese think tanks have grown significantly.Correspondingly, overseas studies on Chinese think tanks have evolved from"identifying Chinese think tanks"to"explaining the development of Chinese think tanks".Overseas scholars have analyzed the development of China's democratic decision-making through the lens of think tanks, predicted the direction of China's foreign policy based on the signals released by think tanks, and assessed the global impact of Chinese ideas through think tank networks. The practices of Chinese think tanks have provided new insights for rethinking the relationship between"knowledge and power"and for challenging the research paradigm that overly emphasizes Western experiences in think tank studies. In the future, the domestic research on think tank should focus on maintaining a global perspective while upholding a Chinese stance, employing new data, new methods, and new perspectives to deepen empirical research on Chinese think tanks. This will help correct the grand narratives and universal principles about think tanks defined by Western academic discourse and contribute to the development of China's independent knowledge system.
