Analysis of the influencing factors of temperature on the viscosity measure-ment of oil-based drilling fluid
The rheology of oil-based drilling fluids is significantly affected by temperature, and the repeat-ability of data in indoor studies is poor in view of the inconsistent and inaccurate temperature during measure-ment,which makes it difficult to conduct unified comparisons and brings troubles to the research and explora-tion of oil-based drilling fluids.Hence, the six speed rotational viscometer is used to measure the 600 r/min readings of oil-based drilling fluids with different densities 1.0 g/cm3~2.0 g/cm3 at different temperatures 20℃~80℃.The factor analysis showed that the viscosity of oil-based drilling fluids is the main cause of vis-cosity changes. The higher the temperature is,the smaller the viscosity difference within the unit temperature change range is.It is recommended that in the exploration of high-precision oil-based drilling fluid research and in the high density/ultra high density oil-based drilling fluid research, the measurement temperature should be raised as much as possible and kept consistent within a safe range.
