Analysis of correlation between peripheral blood neutrophils/lymphocytes and prognosis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Objective To investigate the correlationship of peripheral blood neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR)for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)and its prognosis. Methods Retrospective analysis was performed on 135 patients with NPC who were diagnosed for the first time in North Jiangsu People's Hospital from January 2014 to June 2015 without any treatment. The general clinical data and the correlation between the ratio of neutrophils/lymphocyte in peripheral blood(NLR)and their prognosis were analyzed. The optimal threshold value of the NLR was determined using the receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC),and the NLR was divided into high and low groups according to the optimal threshold value.Kakaer-Meier analysis,log-rank test and cox risk model were used to analyze and compare the relationship between gender, age, pathological clinical stage and NLR and patient survival time. Results Univariate analysis showed that the prognosis of NPC patients was significantly correlated with age, clinical stage, and NLR(all P<0.05),there was no significant correlation with the gender of the patient(P>0.05).Cox multivariate prognostic analysis showed that age, clinical stage and NLR were independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of patients with NPC(all P<0.05),and the survival time of patients with elevated NLR was significantly reduced, and the survival rate of the low NLR group was significantly higher than that of the high NLR group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion Age,clinical stage and NLR are predictors of prognosis in patients with NPC.NLR>2.78 indicates poor prognosis, which can be used as a useful factor to evaluate the prognosis of patients with NPC and is worth popularizing.
