Application of 3D printing model combined with case-based learning teaching method in clinical teaching of bone tumors
Objective To explore the application effect and significance of a 3D printing model combined with a case-based learning(CBL)teaching method in clinical teaching of bone tumors. Methods From July 2023 to September 2023,148 five-year undergraduate students who participated in clinical practice lectures in the Department of Orthopedics and Oncology of Xijing Hospital were randomly divided into two groups, with 74 students in each group. The traditional CBL teaching method and a 3D printing model combined with the CBL teaching method were used to teach the same case teaching course, respectively. At the end of the course, the teaching effect was evaluated by the class test and the questionnaire after class. Results The results of in-class testing showed that the group receiving CBL combined with 3D printing had excellent rates of 93.2%,90.5%,and 87.8%in identifying tumor-adjacent structures, selecting surgical approaches, and evaluating tumor resection ranges, respectively. The accuracy rates were higher than those of the CBL group, which were 81.1%,78.4%,and 74.3%,respectively(all P<0.05).After-class evaluation showed that the"excellent"rates of the CBL combined with 3D printing group in terms of course enjoyment, stimulating clinical interest, understanding surgical processes, and improving clinical thinking ability were 100%,95.9%,97.3%,and 95.9%,respectively.All of which were superior to the CBL group's values of 86.5%,83.8%,83.8%,and 81.1%(all P<0.05).Conclusions The 3D printing model combined with the CBL teaching method has an active significance for clinical diagnosis and treatment when teaching about bone tumor, which is a rare and complex disease, and the teaching effect is excellent.
