Effects of noninvasive mechanical ventilation on sleep quality and cognitive function in elderly COPD pa-tients with respiratory failure
Objective To study the effect of noninvasive mechanical ventilation on sleep quality and cognitive ability in elderly COPD patients with respiratory failure. Methods A total of 130 elderly patients with COPD combined respiratory failure from June 2018 to June 2020 in our hospital were selected as the study subjects. The scores of Pitts-burgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)and Montreal Cognitive Function Assessment Scale(MoCA)of these patients were compared before and after treatment with noninvasive mechanical ventilation. Results The total PSQI score of patients after treatment was significantly lower than that before treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The total score of MoCA after treatment was significantly higher than that before treatment, the difference was statisti-cally significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Non-invasive mechanical ventilation can significantly improve the sleep quality and cognitive ability of elderly COPD patients with respiratory failure, and should be used flexibly in the clinic according to the actual situation of the patient.
