Correlation Between Depressive Status and Personality Traits in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients
Objective To investigate the correlation between depression and personality traits in maintenance hemodialysis(MHD)patients. Methods Eighty-five MHD patients from March 2020 to March 2023 in Xuancheng City Central Hospital were the observation subjects of this study. The self-rating depression scale(SDS)was used to assess the depressed mood, and the SDS score ≥ 53 was set as the depressed group and<53 as the non-depressed group. The general information of the patients in the two groups and the simplified version of the Big Five personality in-ventory(neuroticism extraversion openness five-factor inventory,NEO-FFI)were compared. The correlation between NEO-FFI scores and SDS scores of patients in the depressed group was analyzed. Results Among the 85 patients,29 cases were detected with depressed mood, including 14 cases of mild,12 cases of moderate, and 3 cases of severe. The differences in age,age on dialysis, years of education, and comorbid complications between the depressed and non-depressed groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The difference in gender, work situation, and mar-riage between the two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Extraversion,dutifulness,pleasantness,and openness personality scores in the depressed group were significantly lower than those in the non-depressed group, and neurotic personality scores were significantly higher than those in the non-depressed group(P<0.05).Extraversion,dutifulness,pleasantness,and openness personality scores were negatively correlated with SDS scores in the depressed group, and neurotic personality scores were positively correlated with SDS scores(P<0.05).Conclusion Mainte-nance hemodialysis patients have a high detection rate of depressive mood and a strong association between depressive mood and personality traits.
