Current status of anxiety and depression mood and behavior problems of middle school students in Xinxiang City
Objective To explore current status of anxiety,depression,and behavior problems of middle school students in Xinxiang City,Henan Province.Methods This study used the overall random sampling method to select 5341 adolescents from 4 middle schools in Xinxiang urban area from September to October 2022,and the sub-jects and their parents were surveyed using Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale,Patient Health Questionnaire,and Child Behavior Checklist.Results The age range of the subjects was 12-19 years old,with a mean age of(14.87±0.99)years.The detection rates of adolescent anxiety and depression were 22.41%and 19.96%respectively.The de-tection rate of adolescent behavior problems was 6.68%,of which 6.20%was for boys and 7.24%was for girls.Girls'anxiety(t=-5.85,P<0.001),depression(t=-5.86,P<0.001)and behavior problems(t=-2.31,P=0.02)were all significantly higher than boys.Adolescents from rural areas had significantly higher levels of depression compared to urban adolescents(t=-2.40,P=0.02).In addition,after controlling for gender and place of birth,anxiety(β=0.15,P<0.001)and depression(β=0.45,P<0.001)had a significant positive explanation for the variation in adolescent behavior problems.Conclusion The incidence of anxiety and depression among middle school students in Xinxiang City is high and the incidence of behavior problems is low.There is a close relationship between anxiety and depression and adolescent behavior problems.
