Status Quo and Correlation Analysis of Oral Frailty and Mild Cognitive Impairment in Community Elderly
Objective To investigate the association between Oral Frailty(OF)and Mild Cognitive Impairment(MCI)in the elderly population within the community. Methods A staged random sampling method was employed to select 935 elderly individuals from 10 administrative communities in the northern Anhui province of China.General de-mographic information, the Oral Frailty Index-8(OFI-8),and the Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE)were used for the assessment, followed by correlation and factor analysis. Results The prevalence of OF in community-dwelling elderly individuals was 38.1%,while that of MCI was 20.2%.Logistic regression analysis revealed that age, chronic diseases, education level, and MCI were significant risk factors for OF in the elderly.Gender, age, chronic diseases, and OF were identified as risk factors for the occurrence of MCI.Spearman's correlation analysis demonstrated a nega-tive correlation between the total OFI-8 score and the total MMSE score(r=0.-453,P<0.001).Conclusion The prevalence of OF and MCI is relatively high in community-dwelling elderly individuals, and these two conditions are positively correlated and mutually influential.Healthcare providers should pay attention to the cognitive status of elderly individuals while addressing their oral health.
