Correlation between VEGF and FGF-2 and prognosis of refractory depression in elderly patients
Objective To investigate the relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor(Vascular en-dothelial growth factor,VEGF)and fibroblast growth factor-2(Fibroblast growth factor-2,FGF-2)and prognosis of elderly patients with treatment-resistant depression. Methods A total of 100 elderly patients with treatment-resistant depression admitted to our hospital from July 2019 to July 2022 were selected and divided into poor prognosis group(n=38)and good prognosis group(n=62)according to the follow-up results.General data were collected to analyze the risk factors of poor prognosis in elderly patients with refractory depression and the value of VEGF and FGF-2 in pre-dicting poor prognosis in elderly patients with refractory depression. Results The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(Eysenck Personality Questionnaire,EPQ)standard score of N dimension and the proportion of people with chronic physical diseases in the poor prognosis group were significantly higher than those in the good prognosis group, while the Social Support Rating Scale(Social Support Rating Scale,SSRS)total score, the levels of VEGF and FGF-2 in the poor prognosis group were significantly lower than those in the good prognosis group(P<0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis confirmed that EPQ standard score of N dimension, chronic physical disease,SSRS total score,VEGF,FGF-2 were the risk factors for poor prognosis in elderly patients with refractory depression(P<0.05).ROC curve analysis results showed that the area under the curve of VEGF and FGF-2 in predicting poor prognosis of elderly patients with refractory depression was 0.724 and 0.820,respectively,and P<0.05.Conclusions EPQ standard N-dimension score, chronic physical disease,SSRS total score,VEGF and FGF-2 are risk factors for poor prognosis in elderly patients with refractory depression, and clinical attention should be paid to them.
