Relationship between stigma, social avoidance and distress and depression in patients with cervical cancer
Objective To explore the relationship between stigma, social avoidance and distress and depres-sion in cervical cancer patients. Methods Ninety-two patients with cervical cancer and 50 patients with benign cervi-cal diseases were selected from April 2020 to April 2022 as the study subjects, and were set as observation and control groups.Hamilton depression rating scale(HAMD)was used to assess depressed mood in both groups.Compare the depression rate.Evaluate the social avoidance/distress scale(SADS),social impact scale(SIS)in both groups. The correlation between the scores of the two scales and HAMD scores was analyzed. Results HAMD scores as well as de-pression rates were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).SADS scale avoid-ance and distress scores as well as SIS scale social isolation, intrinsic shame, and economic discrimination scores were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).The difference in social exclusion was not statistically significant(P>0.05).SADS scale avoidance, distress scores, and SIS scale social isolation, intrinsic shame scores were correlates of depressed mood in cervical cancer patients(P<0.05).Conclusion Social isolation, stigma such as intrinsic shame, and social avoidance and distress were significantly associated with depressed mood in cervical cancer patients.
