A preliminary exploration of the potential pathogenic mechanism of Giardia lamblia
Giardia lamblia is a common zoonotic parasitic protozoa while giardiasis has been listed as one of the 10 major parasitic diseases endangering human health by World Health Organization.The harmfulness of giardiasis is attracting more and more attentions in recent years,however,the pathogenic mechanism of diarrhea caused by the parasite is still unclear.It may be related to many factors,such as cytoskeletal proteins,excretory/secretory products,L-arginine metabolism,surface antigen and antigenic variation of G.lamblia,and the immunological changes of the host.Researches concerning the pathogenic mechanism of the giardiasis were reviewed in this paper.
