Research progress on the renal protective effect of sphingosine 1-phosphate
Kidney disease is a global public health issue affecting millions of people, with its prevalence rapidly increasing in recent years.Currently, the efficacy or availability of various kidney protective measures is limited, creating an urgent need for more kidney-protective strategies.Sphingolipids and their metabolites have attracted attention due to their important role in kidney diseases.Sphingosine-1-phosphate(S1P),a bioactive sphingolipid,is involved in the pathogenesis and progression of various kidney diseases,in-cluding acute kidney injury, diabetic nephropathy, recovery of renal graft function, and chronic kidney disease. This article reviews the protective effects and significance of S1P in kidney diseases and the progress in research on related signaling pathways, which are of great importance for preventing the onset of kidney disease and reducing mortality.
