Research progress on the role and mechanism of heme oxygenase-1 in sepsis
Sep sis is one of the most common and severe causes of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients and is the leading cause of death in intensive care unit patients.Heme oxygenase-1(HO-1),a key rate-limiting enzyme in heme degradation, has anti-inflammatory,antioxidant functions, and can regulate apoptosis and promote endothelial growth. It plays a role in regulating vari-ous molecular mechanisms and is a potential therapeutic target for sepsis. This article focuses on the protective effect of HO-1 on sepsis-induced injuries in the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and brain. It summarizes and highlights the protective mechanisms involved in recent studies, deepens the understanding of HO-l's molecular mechanisms, and explores its therapeutic potential in organ damage caused by sepsis,in an effort to explore new strategies for the prevention and treatment of organ injury in clinical sepsis.
