Mediating Role of Time Perspective Between Coping Styles and Anxiety and Depression in College Students During the Period of COVID-19 Control
Objective To explore the mediating role of coping style between time insight and anxiety or depression in college students during campus management and control of COVID-19.Methods By convenience sampling,a total of 1 045 college students in Xi'an were investigated using Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory(ZPTI),the Chinese version of the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ),the Chinese version of the coronavirus Anxiety Scale(CAS)and the Patient Health Questionnaire(PHQ)between 3rd and 10th January 2022.Correlation analysis,structu-ral equation model and non-parametric bootstrap method were used to analyze the data.Results ①College students'past negative score was(2.83±0.64),past positive score was(3.68±0.71),present impulsive score was(2.79± 0.66),present fatalism score was(2.72±0.76),and future score was(3.53±0.60).The score of positive coping was(2.07±0.59)and that of negative coping was(l.24±0.55).The anxiety score was(6.82±3.32).The score of depression was(4.34±4.26).②During campus management and control of COVID-19,college students'past negative,present impulsive,present fatalism,negative coping and anxiety or depression were significantly positively correlated(P<0.01).There were significant negative correlations between college students'past pos-itive,future,positive coping style and anxiety or depression(P<0.01).There was a significant negative correlation between col-lege students'negative coping style and anxiety or depression(P<0.01).③Coping style played a mediating role be-tween time insight and anxiety or depression in college students.Conclusion Time perspective could not only direct-ly affect the anxiety and depression of college students,but also indirectly affect them through coping styles.Therefore,follow-up psychological counseling could improve college students'mental health by balancing time perspective and strengthening coping methods.
