Analysis of Employee Satisfaction in A Tertiary General Hospital Based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Objective To analyze the job satisfaction of employees in a tertiary hospital and provide a theoretical basis for the hospital management department to make scientific strategies to improve employee satisfaction.Methods In June 2022,an online questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the job satisfaction of 1 412 em-ployees in a tertiary comprehensive hospital in Xiangyang,Hubei.The questionnaire included five aspects of satisfac-tion content:basic information,physiological needs(salary and benefits),safety needs(internal management),social needs(interpersonal relationships),respect needs(working environment),and self-actualization(career development and planning).Results The job satisfaction score of hospital employees was thehighest in interpersonal relationships(81.65±14.66 points),while the lowest in salary and benefits(70.52±19.50 points).Doctors had the lowest satis-faction scores for working environment and internal management(72.68±13.36 and 72.98±13.23 points,respec-tively),while management personnel had the lowest satisfaction score for career development and planning(70.27±18.05 points).Employees with intermediate titles had the lowest satisfaction score for career development and plan-ning(74.44±15.77 points),and those with working years between 5 and 10 years had the lowest satisfaction score for salary and benefits(68.48±20.10 points).Conclusion According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory,hospi-tals should appropriately improve the salary and benefits of hospital staff,pay attention to the working environment of doctors,and strengthen the training and guidance of mid-level professional titles and management personnel on ca-reer development and planning to enhance staff job satisfaction.
