Study on the Correlation between Family Function and Health Self-management of Elderly People in Shanghai Community
Objective To understand the family function of elderly people in Shanghai community and their health self-management level,and to explore the correlation between them.Methods A convenience sample of 1 685 older adults who attended community health centers and sites in Shanghai from November to December 2021 were sur-veyed with a questionnaire face-to-face that included basic demographic characteristics,adult health self-management ability,and the Family Functioning Scale.Results The total health self-management score of the survey respondents was 150.52±24.28,of which the scores of behavioral,environmental and cognitive dimensions were 49.97±11.49,38.75±8.32 and 61.85±8.46,respectively.A total of 731 people(43.4%)had a high overall rating of health self-management.The analysis found that frequent communication with children(OR=1.92,95%CI=1.20-3.06),good family functioning(OR=2.42,95%CI=1.85-3.17),moderate family income level(OR=1.72,95%CI=1.29-2.29)and high-income level(OR=1.65,95%CI=1.20-2.28),and self-rated satisfaction with life(OR=1.31,95%CI=1.03-1.67)were favorable to the health self-management of older adults.The overall cognitive level of older adults was better than behavioral ability.Conclusion Good family relationship and atmosphere is conducive to improving the health self-management level of the elderly.Attention should be paid to the gap between the cognitive and beha-vioral abilities of the elderly,and the guidance and evaluation of good behaviors should be added on the basis of regu-lar health knowledge promotion.
