Mediating Effect of Medical Coping Styles in the Relationship Between Perceived Social Support and Diabetes Distress among Patients with Type 1 Diabetes
Objective To explore the mediating effect of medical coping styles between perceived social support and diabetes distress,to provide basis for disease management of type 1 diabetes. Methods 309 patients with type 1 diabetes hospitalized in a tertiary hospital of Nanjing from April 2020 to January 2022 were investigated with general information questionnaire, medical coping style questionnaire, perceived social support scale and type 1 diabetes dis-tress scale, the correlations were analyzed by SPSS 25.0,and the mediating effects were analyzed by AMOS 24.0.Results Medical coping style includes three dimensions:confrontation, avoidance and surrender, their scores in patients with type 1 diabetes were(19.63±3.55),(15.48±3.59),and(9.42±3.04),respectively.The confronta-tion was positively correlated with the perceived social support(r=0.132,P<0.05),negatively correlated with the diabetes distress(r=-0.247,P<0.01).Avoidance and surrender were negatively correlated with the perceived social support(r=-0.657,-0.724,P<0.05),positively correlated with the diabetes distress(r=0.216,0.201,P<0.01).The perceived social support had a direct negative predictive effect on diabetes distress(β=-0.233,P<0.01),social support can indirectly affect diabetes distress through the confrontation coping style(β=-0.033,P<0.05),and indi-rect effect accounted for 12.41%of the total ones. Conclusion By encouraging patients with type 1 diabetes to adopt active medical coping styles,we can enhance their understanding of the inhibitory effect of social support level on the pain of diabetes, pay attention to patients'disease coping styles, and facilitate the formulation of specific social sup-port policies and measures to alleviate the pain of diabetes.
