A Study on the Association between Closed-eye Unipedal Standing and the Risk of All-cause Mortality among Elderly People in Wuhan Community
Objective To explore the association between closed-eye unipedal standing and the risk of all-cause mortality among elderly people in Wuhan community. Methods Based on the Wuhan Elderly Physical Fitness Re-search Cohort, the baseline survey was conducted in October 2015.In March 2023,the follow-up was conducted. And the outcome was all-cause mortality and the death data was as of December 31 2022.Cox proportional hazards re-gression model was used to analyze the association between closed-eye unipedal standing and all-cause mortality risk. Results A total of 2 096 people were included, and ultimately 298(14.22%)of the subjects died. For every 1 second increase in closed-eye unipedal standing, the risk of all-cause mortality decreases by 5%(HR=0.95,95%CI:0.91-0.99).This relationships remained significant in males(HR=0.94,95%CI:0.90-0.99)≥80 years old(HR=0.89,95%CI:0.80-0.99).The sensitivity analysis results were robust. Conclusion Among elderly people in Wuhan, the increase in the duration of closed-eye unipedal standing is closely related to a reduced risk of all-cause mortality.
