Reasearch on the Low Professional Loyalty among Undergraduate Nursing Students at Project"985"Universities
Objective To analyze the reason of low professional loyalty of undergraduate nursing students from Project"985"universities.Methods Based on career choice theory, this study conducted a thematic analysis of data from in-depth interviews with 17 undergraduate nursing students from a university and those through virtual ethnog-raphy from some internet platforms such as Zhihu,Douban, etc. Results The fundamental reason for the low profes-sional loyalty was the mismatch between their career expectations and the reality of the nursing profession. The fac-tors within their social network pushing them away from the nursing profession were always much more than those keeping them in nursing industry. In order to change their careers, nursing students were not only continuously in-vested heavily in their human capital during their undergraduate studies, but also actively draw on social capital and other resources from their social network. Conclusion Such a low professional loyalty is currently inevitable, and it is necessary to consider appropriately reducing the scale of undergraduate admission in nursing programs for Project"985"universities,and focus more on professional master or even doctoral education and in-service training.
