The Effect of Elderly Care Support on Self-rated Health of the Elderly in China
Objective To analyze the effects of elderly care support on self-rated health and explore countermea-sures to promote elderly care support system.Methods Based on CLHLS 2018 survey data,to total of 13 547 valid samples were included,a binary Logistic model was constructed to analyze the influence of financial support,emo-tional support,living care support on self-rated health of the elderly.Results In the aspect of financial support,com-pared to those who mainly rely on their family,the elderly who rely on retirement benefits(OR=1.180,95%CI:1.011-1.376)had better self-rated health.In the aspect of emotional support,compared to those who mainly chatted with their families,the elderly who had no one to chat with had poorer self-rated health(OR=0.497,95%CI:0.378-0.654).In the aspect of living care support,the elderly who received care from a care giver(OR=0.630,95%CI:0.431-0.920)or nobody(OR=0.696,95%CI:0.508-0.953)when feeling unwell had poor self-rated health compared to those received care from family members.Conclusion Economic support from retirement benefits and emotional support from different sources have a positive impact on the self-rated health of the elderly.Living care support from family members is better than that from a care giver.To improve the elderly care support system,it is necessary to expand the coverage of pension insurance and improve the level of security;emotional communication channels for the elderly should be expanded;Support policies for family care should be improved;Professional training and cultivation of elderly nursing staff should be strengthened.
