Biochemical assay of brick-tea fluorosis and drinking-water fluorosis
Objective To investigate the differences in the blood biochemistry between brick-tea fluorosis and drinking-water fluorosis. Methods A total of 79 patients with brick-tea fluorosis and 92 patients with drinking-water fluorosis were randomly selected. All patients aged 16-55 years. The contents of fluoride and aluminum in tea, water and urine were detected.Dental fluorosis was evaluated.X-ray examination of the right forearm and pelvis was conducted.Serum electrolytes and biochemical indicators were assessed. The content of fluoride was detected with selective electrode method. The contents of aluminum, calcium and phosphorus were detected with ICP-AES method.Serum enzymes,BUN,CREA,UA and CO2 were detected with Olympus AU-400 Automatic Biochemical Analyzer. Results The contents of BUN,CREA,and CO2 in brick-tea fluorosis were significantly higher than those in drinking-water fluorosis. The contents of TBIL,DBIL and IDBIL in drinking-water fluorosis were higher than those of drinking-water fluorosis.ConclusionThe biochemical changes of residents in the endemic area are significantly different between brick-tea fluorosis and drinking-water fluorosis. The pathogenesis is complex, which may be associated with the high contents of fluoride and aluminum in brick-tea.
