A survey on the awareness and satisfaction of the national food safety standards in Shaanxi Province among relevant personnel
Objective To investigate how well General Hygienic Standard for Food Production (GB14881-2013), Food Microbiological Examination (GB4789), and Standard for Physical and Chemical Inspection of Food Hygiene (GB5009 and GB5413 series) are understood by regulators, researchers, and people in testing centers and food production industries, in order to provide potential solutions and reference for the problems and implementation of the national standards.Methods Stratified multistage random sampling was applied to investigate regulators, researchers, and people in testing centers and food production industries in the 11 cities in Shaanxi Province with self-designed questionnaire.Results A total of 170 questionnaires were released and 166 valid responses were obtained.For GB14881-2013, the total awareness rate was 73.5%;researchers had the highest awareness rate (100%), while inspectors had the lowest (63.5%);the total satisfaction rate was 69.3%;entrepreneurs had the highest satisfaction rate (94.7%), while inspectors had the lowest (58.8%).For GB4789, the total satisfaction rate was 98.8%.Inspectors had the lowest satisfaction rate (75%).For GB5009 and GB5413 series, the total awareness rate was 81.9%;researchers had the highest awareness rate (100%), while regulators had the lowest (59%);the total satisfaction rate was 75.9%;inspectors had the highest satisfaction rate (85.9%), while regulators had the lowest (53.8%).The following recommendations were made in terms of the main problems in the implementation: as food continued to be more diverse, the contents of the standards should be more detailed;reliable quick testing methods should be developed in case of public health emergency;some of the international advanced sample-testing equipments and methods should be included into China`s standard system.Conclusions Food entrepreneurs, regulators, inspectors, and scientific personnel of Shaanxi had high awareness rate and satisfaction rate for GB4789, and GB5009 and GB5413 series, but had low awareness rate and satisfaction rate on GB14881-2013.The survey also observed that the contents, nature, and orientation of the standards are not understood well enough, so that the standards need to be improved.
