Objective Exploring the relationship between sleep disorders and sarcopenia in terms of both sleep duration and sleep quality. Methods A survey was conducted on the elderly population who came to the main city and districts of Chongqing Munici-pality from March 2023 to August 2023 for medical checkups in a total of five community health centers.Sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)scale.Sleep duration was categorized as short sleep(<5 h),normal sleep(5-<7 h)and long sleep(≥7 h).The diagnosis of sarcopenia was based on the diagnostic criteria recommended by the Asian Sarcopenia Work-ing Group. Results A total of 622 subjects were included in this study, including 80(12.9%)suffering from sarcopenia. The prevalence of sarcopenia differed among subjects with different sleep duration(P<0.05).The prevalence of sarcopenia was higher in subjects with longer sleep duration than in subjects with normal sleep duration(P<0.05).Comparison of the prevalence of sarcope-nia between subjects with good and poor sleep quality showed no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).Logistic regression e-quations showed that the prevalence of sarcopenia in older women who slept longer than those with a normal sleep duration was 2.486 times higher when not adjusted for covariates. The prevalence of sarcopenia in older women who slept longer was 2.818 times that of those with normal sleep duration, after adjusting for age, body mass index, marital history, work status, education, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. In contrast, there was no correlation between sleep duration and sarcopenia in older male subjects(P>0.05).Conclusion Elderly people who sleep longer are more likely to suffer from sarcopenia than those who sleep a normal amount of time, and this finding is more pronounced in women.
