Design and Clinical Research Strategies of Antimicrobial Peptides
Antimicrobial resistance is a serious threat to human health and global public health security.Antimicrobial peptides, which have garnered significant attention recently due to their broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and varied bactericidal processes, are being regarded as viable substitutes for antibiotics. At present, some antimicrobial peptides are undergoing clinical trials for the prevention and treatment of bacterial pathogen infections.Nevertheless, low bioavailability and significant hemolytic activity, two potentially harmful side effects, prevented antimicrobial peptides from being clinically converted. In order to provide new ideas for the drug development of antimicrobial peptides, this article introduces the research progress of antimicrobial peptides in clinical, summarizes the challenges during the drug development and provides some strategies for its development.
