Archives are a normal tool and an institutionalized selective mechanism for national governance, contributing to the construction of national governance system and its legitimacy acquisition, and playing a signifi-cant role in the construction of social history, public memory and national identity.Public memory serves as the link between archival narrative and identity to provide a precondition for identity, while identity is the selective result of public memory and archives promote identity by participating in the construction and reinforcement of public memo-ry.The connection between public memory and the sense of community for the Chinese nation is displayed in the public imagination space constructed by the archives, which promotes the members of the Chinese national commu-nity to enhance their mutual identity on the ground of sharing the common-owned memory context.Through the structure of the modern archival system, the common memory of the Chinese nation is reinforced continuously in the unified multi-ethnic nation, shaping a solid sense of community for the Chinese nation. The cohesion and appeal of the Chinese national community is enhanced by comprehensive virtue of the memory and tool value of archives, which works as a key measure to break competitive narrow nationalism and resolve the crisis of ethnic-nation identity on the psychological and spiritual levels.
