FROM A FIELD SITE TO A THEORECTICAL ORIGIN:Dayao Mountain as the Theoretical Construction Origin of the"Chinese Nation's Diversity in Unity Pattern"
The theory of the"Chinese Nation's Diversity in Unity Pattern",which was proposed by Fei Xiao-tong,has greatly influenced the ethnic policies and theories in China.Against such a background,this paper reviews the field investigation studies and writings on Dayao Mountain initiated by Fei Xiaotong,as well sorts out the multi-ple influences of Fei's investigation activities on local society and people of Dayao Mountain in Jinxiu County of Guangxi,considering that this region carries different meanings for researchers in different periods,and their investi-gation writings have recoded the process of Dayao Mountain society's marching towards ethnic equality,unity,and development.The field investigations in Dayao Mountain and the production and dissemination of related academic knowledge texts have multiple influences on Jinxiu for developing social economy,promoting social governance,con-structing ethnic cultural identification,and converging cultural consciousness and cultural confidence.The key theme of the Party's ethnic work in the new era is to forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation,and the in-teraction-communication reciprocal relationship between the field ethnography of Dayao Mountain as well the re-search groups and the researched groups possesses paradigm significance,much enriching Guangxi,even various ethnic regions'understandings on the multi-practice model of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.
