INTERETHNIC-SHARED SYMBOLS AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHINESE NATIONAL COMMUNITY:A Historical Anthropology Study on the Historical Construction and Cultural Identity of the"White Emperor Heavenly King"in Western Hunan
As one of the interethnic-shared symbols in the Miao region of Western Hunan,the"White Emperor Heavenly King"culture carries the collective memory of various ethnic groups in this area.It possesses a powerful cultural image and emotional communication function,showcasing profound implications of interethnic interactions,exchanges and integration.Based on field investigations and extensive literature materials,this study delves into the construction,logic,and functions of the shared symbol of"White Emperor Heavenly King".It reveals that the sym-bol has evolved from demonstrating"ethnic identity"to promoting"interethnic sharing"through multiple narratives and memory constructions.By integrating the"geographical pattern of sacred time and space",the"foundation of emotional communication",and the"intrinsic core of memory sharing",it interprets the theoretical logic behind the generation of the interethnic shared symbol of"White Emperor Heavenly King".Furthermore,it outlines the func-tional imagination from"geographical community"and"spiritual community"to the"Chinese national communi-ty."The study of the"White Emperor Heavenly King"symbol,and the exploration of other interethnic shared sym-bols and the construction of the Chinese national community,not only promote the understanding of their cultural connotations and enhance Chinese cultural identity,but also hold theoretical and practical significance in consolida-ting the consciousness of the Chinese national community.
