A CHRONOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE ZHONG SHU SHE REN IN THE TANG-TIBET BARGAINING
China is a multi-ethnic country, and the development of the Chinese nation is an evolutionary process of various ethnic groups connecting, promoting, and integrating with each other in different ways. The exchange and interaction between Tang and Tibet during the Middle Ages are vivid manifestations of this process. This paper focuses on the Zhongshu Sheren group, which has long been neglected but takes up an important position in the Tang-Tibetan relations, and explores the social functions of this group in the Zhongshu Province of Tang Dynasty, including not only drafting and developing plans, but also participating in political affairs, collecting intelli-gence,analyzing strategies, and being appointed as envoys. In addition, the Tibetan society established the"Zhihan-shu Sheren"position in its regime through absorbing and integrating the official system of the Tang dynasty.Though having a vastly different position and political power from the Zhongshu Sheren of the Tang dynasty,this"Zhihan-shu Sheren"group has played a similar role in strengthening the communication between the Tang dynasty and Tibetan, repairing old friendships, and furthering their relationships, reflecting the Tibeta's respect for Han culture and the infiltration and integration of Chinese culture into Tibetan society.
