Impacts of different dosages of phosphorous fertilizer on agronomic traits and yield in sugarcane in central Guangxi
[Objective]Effects of phosphorous fertilization on sugarcane production were investigated in central Cuangxi to rationalize the application of phosphorous fertilizer in sugarcane fields. [Method]Field experiments were conducted using four different levels of phosphorous fertilizer treatments, viz., Po (0 kg/ha), P1 (59.925 kg/ha), P2(119.850 kg/ha), P3 (179.775 kg/ha) to observe their effects on sugarcane growth characteristics in Xingbin District of Guangxi. In addition to this, their agronomic efficiency was also calculated. [Result]At tillering, elongation and maturity stages, the application of phosphorous fertilizer significantly boosted the growth vigor of sugarcane. On an average, effective stem number, stem diameter and yield of sugarcane were increased by 6.48, 6.67 and 8.70%, respectively, under different fertilization treatment compared to Po (no fertilizer). Agronomic efficiency of phosphorus fertilizer in treatment P1, P2, P3 was 14.51, 10.82 and 8.31%, respectively. Once exceeding 119.850 kg/ha (P2O5), single stalk weight and agronomic efficiency of phosphorus fertilizer declined with increasing fertilizer dose. [Conclusion]Considering sugarcane yield and effective use of fertilizer, the viable dose of phosphorus fertilizer should be 119.850 kg/ha (P2O5) for central Guangxi areas.
