Recognition of Helionothrips and its damage to taro
[Objective]The present experiment was conducted to identify thrips species and its damage to taro in Yunnan province,in order to provide basic information for further study on biological characters of thrips and its integrated control.[Method]Thrips were identified, which were directly collected from taro plants in vegetables bases of 7 prefectures (cities) in Yunnan province from June to September in 2015,meanwhile,the damaged symptoms of taro plants were investigated and recorded.[Result]A total of 1028 thrips adults were directly collected from 15 taro planting areas of 7 prefectures (cities). The identification result showed that, thrips damaging taro were identified as Helionothrips aino and Helionothrips mube belonging to Helionothrips,Panchaetothripinae,Thripidae,of which,792 individuals of H.mube were collected, accounting for 77.04% of all collected samples. Then their recognizable morphological characters and damages to taro were described.[Conclusion]Helionothrips is one of common insect pests on taro, including H.aino and H.mube, and H.mube is dominant species.
