Does Age Affect Research Output:An Analysis Based on the Research Paper Output of University Librarians
The gap between the increasing academic demands of university libraries and the low enthusiasm and output of librarian re-search continues to widen.Exploring the age and trends of peak research paper output by university librarians is of great significance for establishing a career-long research incentive mechanism and enhancing the professionalism of librarians and the academic level of libraries.Taking the research paper output in 12 CSSCI journals related to library and information science by university librarians from 2011 to 2022 and 553 high-yielding university librarians as research subjects,it was statistically found that the research paper output of university librarians presents a unimodal pattern, with youth being the high-output period, which then decreases with the growth of age. There is a trend of the peak age gradually increasing. The peak age interval of research paper output and research continuity by female librarians in universities is shorter than that of male librarians, and there is basically no difference in the length of scientific research life among librarians in universities of different levels.Based on the analysis of the differences in research paper output by university li-brarians,measures to enhance the research output of university librarians are proposed, such as valuing the golden research period, creating research conditions for young librarians, tilting quality resources towards female librarians, and paying attention to the research demands of librarians at different ages.
