Chen Duxing's Thoughts and Practices on Social Education in the Circulating Library
In response to the challenges of implementing social education through libraries,Chen Duxing founded the Private Zhejiang Circulating Library in 1925.Drawing on both domestic and international practices in library resource circulation and combining them with his personal experiences and ideals,Chen centered the library's operations on resource circulation.The library promoted its ser-vices to the public,the library community,and the government.It optimized in-library borrowing,developed targeted collections,and established mobile book services in public spaces.The library also introduced innovative services such as borrowing via letters,book agency stations,and bicycle-based book delivery.Chen Duxing's thoughts and practices on social education in the circulating library propelled the advancement of modern library resource circulation and contributed to social education efforts.His concepts of circula-tion,reader-oriented service,and promotional strategies provide valuable lessons for the development of contemporary libraries.
