Research on the Construction and Services of Printed Ephemera in Foreign Libraries and Cultural Institutions
Printed ephemera contain rich historical, social and cultural value, and their construction and services play a positive role in improving the quality and spiritual connotation of institutional collections. This paper investigates the collection practices of printed ephemera in 20 institutions abroad, including ephemera associations, libraries, archives, and museums. It analyzes five aspects:ac-quisition strategies, classification and organization methods, digital construction, promotion and access, and featured service items. The findings reveal that foreign printed ephemera are diverse in type and cover a wide range of topics. They are highly digitized and well-exposed,with easy retrieval and utilization.Besides employing exhibitions, auctions, new media, and cultural and creative prod-ucts for promotion, some institutions have also leveraged their collections to provide access services and support for teaching and aca-demic research at various levels.Based on the study of foreign practices, the paper proposes five recommendations for the development of printed ephemera in China:raising institutional awareness, improving classification systems, building printed ephemera databases, innovating promotion methods, and offering public-oriented specialized services.
