Development of Low-Voltage Submarine Cable Based on Wet Design
The wet design adopts a polymer sheath structure with radial water barrier to replace a metal sheath structure with radial water barrier in the traditional dry design, making the product structure of a submarine cable simpler, lower manufacturing and laying costs, and higher cost-effectiveness.For the first time, wet design has been carried out for 220 V low-voltage submarine cable with 900 m short length,3X35 mm2 small specification and 0.9 mm thin insulation. The low-voltage submarine cable based on wet design achieves radial water resistance by setting HDPE insulation water barrier and HDPE cable core water barrier(inner lining layer)structure, and the cable meets relevant design requirements. The design, manufacturing, laying, and successful operation of this low-voltage submarine cable indicate that wet design can be applied to the development of submarine cables with lower working voltage level.
