Protective effects of combined acupuncture at transport and source acupoints on rats with chronic myocardial ischemia and its mechanism
Objective To investigate the protective effects of combined acupuncture at transport and source acupoints on rats with chronic myocardial ischemia and its mechanism .Methods Forty-eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group ,model group , combined acupoint group and single acupoint group ,with 12 cases in each group .The chronic myocardial ischemia model was developed by injection with isoprenaline hydrochloride in each group except the control group .After the successful modeling , the rats in the combined acupoint group were acupunctured at Shenmen ,Daling,Xinshu and Queyinshu acupoints ,while the rats in the single acupoint group were only acupunctured at Neiguan acupoint .And no intervention was performed in the control group or the model group .The cardiac function indexes including left ventricular systolic pressure ( LVSP ) , left ventricular end-diastolic pressure ( LVEDP ) , maximum velocity of left ventricular pressure rise( +dp/dtmax),maximum velocity of left ventricular pressure fall ( -dp/dtmax),and heart rate were compared among all groups. The changes in the levels of serum superoxide dismutase (SOD),malonaldehyde(MDA),lipid peroxidation(LPO) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX),as well as myocardial infarct sizes were observed in each group .Results Compared to the model group,LVSP,+dp/dtmax ,-dp/dtmax ,heart rate,SOD and GSH-PX levels were higher while MDA and LPO levels and LVEDP were lower in the combined acupoint group(all P<0.05) after 15 days of intervention.Compared to the single acupoint group,LVSP,+dp/dtmax ,-dp/dtmax , SOD and GSH-PX levels were higher while LPO level was lower in the combined acupoint group(all P<0.05).The myocardial infarct size in the combined acupoint group was less than that in the model group or the single acupoint group(all P<0.05).Conclusion Combined acupuncture at transport and source acupoints has protective effects on rats with chronic myocardial ischemia ,and its mechanism may correlate with the role of the combined acupuncture in alleviating lipid peroxidation damage and reducing the severity of myocardial injury .
