The aim is to adjust the variety structure of Chenzhou citrus and to select and reserve excellent new varieties suitable for cultivation.Three excellent new varieties of early maturing navel orange were selected as experimental subjects and'Newhall'as control variety.The phenological period,main botanical characteristics,main biological characteristics and fruit quality were evaluated in this paper.It was found that the four navel orange varieties had some differences in phenological period,main botanical characters and main biological characters,but they could grow normally in Chenzhou area.'Zaohong navel orange'matured in mid to late October,about 30 d earlier than'Newhall',the soluble solid content was 10.5%and the acid content was 0.59%,both lower than'Newhall'navel orange,and the peel color could not completely change to orange.The maturity stage of'Gannanzao'was in early and middle November,20～30 d earlier than that of'Newhall',the soluble solid content was 12.7%and the acid content was 0.68%,which was similar to that of'Newhall',drought resistance is strong,and the phenomenon of umbilical yellow and cracked fruit rarely appears.Compared with'Newhall','Longhui Hong'has similar fruit weight,lighter skin color and lower soluble solid content.In summary,'Gannan Zao'has strong adaptability and good fruit quality.It is an early maturing navel orange suitable for promotion in Chenzhou area.
