Correlation between serum parathyroid hormone,25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and left ventricular hypertrophy in middle-aged and elderly patients with essential hypertension
Objective To investigate the correlation between serum levels of parathyroid hormone(PTH),25-hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D]and left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH)in middle-aged and elderly patients with essential hypertension. Methods A total of 204 middle-aged and elderly patients with essential hypertension were randomly collected from the Hypertension Ward of the Cardiovascular Department,Fuwai Yunnan Hospital,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences between November 2022 and May 2023.The patients were divided into LVH group(45 cases)and non-LVH group(159 cases).Demographic information, hemoglobin, uric acid, creatinine, serum calcium ions, serum phosphorus ions, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and PTH,25(OH)D were collected.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between PTH,25(OH)D and LVH in essential hy-pertension patients.Multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis was used to analyze the effect of serum PTH,25(OH)D on LVH in essential hypertensive patients. Results Compared with non-LVH group,PTH was higher[(56.19±27.16)vs(49.01±18.78)ng/L,t=-2.036,P=0.043],while 25(OH)D was lower[(46.95±15.80)vs(53.35±17.18)nmol/L,t=2.239,P=0.026]in the LVH group.Pearson correlation analysis showed that PTH was positively correlated with interventricular septal thickness(IVST)and left ventricular mass index(LVMI)(r=0.203,P=0.004;r=0.170,P=0.015).Multiple stepwise linear regression analysis showed that PTH(β=0.169,P=0.016)was an influence factor of LVMI.Conclusion PTH is positively associated with LVMI in essential hypertensive patients, and PTH is an influencing factor of LVH.
