[Objective]To establish a method for the determination of shikimic acid,protocatechuic acid,p-hy-droxybenzoic acid and p-methoxybenzoic acid in star anise.[Methods]The star anise was determined by high perfor-mance liquid chromatography.The chromatographic column was Kromasil 100-5-C18(250 mm×4.6 mm,5 μm).The mobile phase was acetonitrile-3%phosphoric acid aqueous solution(gradient elution).The flow rate was 1.0 ml/min,the injection volume was 10μl,the detection wavelength was 254 nm,and the column temperature was 40℃.[Results]The contents of shikimic acid,protocatechuic acid,p-hydroxybenzoic acid and p-methoxybenzoic acid in star anise from 11 different producing areas in Guangxi were 6.34%~7.41%,0.28%~0.98%,0.73%~1.90%and 0.07%~0.23%,respectively.[Conclusion]The method applied in this study is simple,stable and reproducible,and can be used for the determination of active ingredients in star anise.
