Clinical Effect of the Combining Use of Modified Huoxue Guiyuan Decoction on Chronic Gastritis with Depression
[Objective]To investigate the clinical effectiveness of the combining use of modified Huoxue Guiyuan decoction in the treatment of chronic gastritis(CG)accompanied by depression.[Methods]By the random number ta-ble method,118 patients with CG and depression were randomly divided into a combined treatment group and a control group, with 59 patients in each. The control group received comprehensive western medicine therapy, while the com-bined treatment group received the treatment of the modified Huoxue Guiyuan decoction in addition to the same western medicine treatment in the control group. The course of treatment lasted for 2 months.Comparisons were made between the two groups in terms of efficacy, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptom scores, patient health questionnaire-9(PHQ-9)scores,recurrence rates, and serum levels of inflammatory cytokines[monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1),interleukin(IL)-8,and IL-32].[Results]The total effective rate was 98.31%in the combined treatment group and 86.44%in the control group, indicating that the combined treatment group had superior efficacy(P<0.05).After a 2-month follow-up,the recurrence rate in the combined treatment group was 1.69%,which was significantly lower than the 15.25%in the control group(P<0.05).After 2 months of treatment, the combined treatment group had lower TCM symptom scores for epigastric or hypochondriac distension and pain, abdominal distension, anorexia, loose and sticky stool, emotional depression, irritability, and other symptoms compared to the control group(P<0.05).Addi-tionally,the PHQ-9 scores in the combined treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of MCP-1,IL-8,and IL-32 in the combined treatment group were also lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).[Conclusion]The combining use of modified Huoxue Guiyuan decoction can effectively improve the clinical symptoms and reduce inflammatory responses in the cases with CG accompanied by depression.
