Effect of Mullite and Fused Quartz Introduced into Ladle Downcomer
The lower water outlet of the ladle is a channel for the flow of molten steel from the ladle to the intermediate ladle, and is connected to the long water outlet of the large ladle. It has the function of protecting casting and preventing secondary oxidation of molten steel. The prob-lems of transverse cutting, perforation, steel clamping, and sticking during the use of the ladle outlet. In order to reduce the probability of cold cracks at the downcomer during ladle operation and reduce the production cost of the ladle downcomer, the effect of mullite and fused silica in-troduced into the ladle downcomer on its performance was studied with high alumina, mullite, fused silica and phenolic resin as the materi-als.The experiments of mullite and fused silica introduced into the ladle nozzle show that:①the introduction of mullite and fused silica has little ②After the introduction of mullite and fused silica, the bending and compressive strength of the ladle nozzle after 1 000 ℃ × 3 h sinte-ring is significantly reduced;③After the introduction of mullite and fused silica, the bulk density decreases and the porosity increases at room temperature and after firing at 1 000 ℃ × 3 h.After normal use on 130t and 180t steel ladles in different steel mills, the probability of cold cracks occurring at the lower water outlet of the ladle has been reduced, with an average hole expansion of 4~4.5mm,meeting the trial re-quirements of steel mills.
